Not an ordinary B and B as we think of them, but a very convenient way of living while travelling and maintaining privacy and security. This studio suite above a store in the walled city of chania, Greece on the island of Crete allowed us freedom of movement, time for exploration and the availability of home cooked meals at our convenience. A spacious room complete with bathroom facilities, a small kitchen and a sofa is all that was needed to enhance our ten day stay on the island. Our studio suite had a people watching balcony on the third floor where we enjoyed morning coffees and friendly ‘hellos’. Complete grocery shopping is a short walk down the street and around the corner.
We travelled the island exhaustively with our friends Dave and Pat, who after years of vacationing there have come to be expert guides. We were usually pretty tired after arriving home from and excursion so the need for night life was not a consideration, late night dining is the de rigueur. A little guitar music wafting across night air enhanced good conversation as we dined at ‘Portes’ outdoor restaurant while sipping local wine. A farewell and it was home to bed for a much needed rest and a bigger day tomorrow.
