Tour de Force

“Ya Gotta Get Pumped.”

Run, Run

Sweat, Sweat.

Swim, stroke,

Stroke, Stroke

more sweat.

Peddle mile after mile

more aching and sweat

All of the trainees experienced this gruelling grind.  They all had agreed to enter an eighteen hour event that would tax their mettle.  The race would challenge everything ;their physical endurance,  their equipment and their psychological  preparedness to want to finish.  Any one of these element going awry would mean disaster.  Sprains, migraines and cramping pains all took their toll through out the day;  The field grew smaller.

One very unfortunate situation happened to a young lady friend of mine.  Ahead in time from her 3.8 km. swim, leading the clock in her 180Km bicycle tour…mechanical failure. With fifteen kilometers to the tape, the back wheel failed, the hub and chain, would lock up when coasting down hill. On those steep slopes and at such reckless speed she could not peddle fast enough to keep a proper balance,  a crash would be immanent, she faced a crash.  She was pulled from the event for safety reasons, so much disappointment.

All of that training gone for naught.   No, not really. She is safe and sound.  She had entered and tried her best.  She will try again because she is stronger.

About whoelmo

cartoonist, reviewer John McDonald- Founding member of the 'Snap Cap Boys', I am also an adventerous bicycle tourist, I visit and review "Bed and Breakfasts". Accompanied by my wife we have toured and visited many locale and enjoyed the pleasant surroundings and hospitality of various "Bed and Breakfast" establishments. The long hours and dusty trails of bicycle travel cultivated many philosophical thoughts and some of these I allow to materialize, which I express in graphic form as "The Blooms"(c). These missives surely add to the entertainment value along with the advice within the "B&B" review. It is my desired wish that you will gain value from this review for your "B&B" experience.
