Venice, (Venezia)
The ‘Grand Canal’ swims through the heart of Venice. It seems to buoy the city and everything must float from place to place. The natural beauty of the water in concert with the elaborate decorations of the architecture offers a magic pallet for the photographer. Beautiful scenes at every turn, around every corner fulfills their every dream. The water certainly sets the scene, gondolas gliding through the mist like graceful geese in their ballerenic dance. Costumed gondoliers skillfully propelling their crafts through narrow canals, under the ‘bridge of sighs’ or docking at a mooring pole all with one long oar.
Enjoy a midday repas in anyone of the local restaurants, or sit down on the steps of a small canal bridge and people watch as they survey the local merchandise in shops that line your travel path.
“The Carnival of Venice” is the first thing that comes to mind as you peer into local shops, the colorful masks that are on display are a delight and so regal looking. It must be remembered that Shakespeare held sway here, with his “Merchants of Venice”.
We had our lunch and an afternoon treat of the most delicious gelato, then we crossed over the ‘Rialto Bridge’ and onto more and interesting sights. The ‘Doge’s Palace’, St Mark’s square, the gondolas well pasts us and we were still enjoying the scenery. Ancient buildings, ebbing and surging tides that nurtured and eroded dynasties and displaced power lay within the grasp of your fingertips and all you need to do is enjoy the scenery.
