‘Taking the first bus that comes along’-Benalmedina,Spain
Many buses pass by on the main business street, Avenida del Sol, of Benalmedina,
- Festival stage-Malaga
- Horse carriages-Malaga Square Festival stage Ferris wheel-Malaga
Spain. The buses diverge at a roundabout and on their merry way, in different directions. We had planned a trip on the number #103, going up the hill from Benalmedina Costa to Benalmedina Centro a good shopping area and have lunch. Our excursion was on a Sunday and we had forgotten how infrequent the #103 was in sevice. The #110 to Malaga city arrived and the passengers were boarding, including the ladies we had offered some advice to about Malaga. We looked at one another, my wife and I and we darted for the bus. Take the first bus that comes along,we are on holidays. On board we sat near the two ladies and exchanged some chit-chat. Make sure you ride the Ferris Wheel!, was our final exchange upon parting. We crossed the square and stopped to take pictures of the horse and carriages awaiting riders. We then crossed a busy roadway and entered a pedestrian street, it had changed, we hardly recognized it. A great canopy of connected high arches, covered with lights ran the length of the public walkway. It was explained to us that the construction was not permanent but was there to celebrate Christmas and extended to the Childrens’ Festival in February. We had lucked out, the festivities were on today on stage. We chose an outdoor restaurant within viewing distance of the stage and enjoyed the show. Later after a delicious lunch we meandered up and down on side streets enjoying the crowd. Costumed singers, off duty, singing national and traditional songs and
enjoying themselves. Bits and pieces of the main event, still in costume milling about readying for the trip home. People here dine out on Sunday, celebrate and enjoy. I wonder how we may have fared if the #103 had arrived?
